How to look after your new tattoo
To get the best result from your new tattoo, it is important you follow a proper aftercare procedure. See the below instructions and talk to your artist if you have any queries. A full run down of how you should look after your new tattoo will be provided to you upon completion. You will also be given a paper copy of these instructions to take home with you.
- A couple of hours after your tattoo session, give the area a gentle clean with PH neutral soap, rinse thoroughly and pat dry.
- Leave the area to dry for 15–20 minutes before massaging in a very small amount of aftercare cream.
- Once cream is applied and massaged in, the area should be slightly tacky. If it feels greasy, gently wipe away the excess cream. Remember, less is more—you need only apply cream 2– 3 times a day.
- Keep your tattoo out of the sun to avoid damage and do not apply sunscreen to the area until it is completely healed (around 2–3 weeks).
- Make sure to keep your new tattoo clean and dry at all times. No swimming or soaking in water during the healing process—showering is ok.
- Flaking of the skin during healing is part of the process. Be careful not to scratch or pick at your tattoo while it heals. Doing so may result in loss of ink.
