How to prepare for your tattoo session and getting tattooed
At Style Inkorporated, we keep a relaxed and welcoming, but professional atmosphere. We’re always ready to have a chat about your design ideas, and answer any questions you may have. The following information outlines what you should expect when booking and attending an appointment for your new tattoo.
Designing your tattoo
The best way to get the perfect design is to come into the shop and talk to us about your ideas, tell us what you do and don’t like, and show us examples. If you like a specific style, or want an element to look a certain way, bring references! This helps your artist to get on the same page as you so they can create a tattoo you will love forever
Getting ready to be tattooed
To best prepare for your new tattoo, make sure you get a good night’s sleep, keep hydrated, and avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours beforehand. Don’t get sunburnt! It’s more difficult to tattoo sunburned skin. It can cause problems with ink dilation, and will be more painful for you.
On the day of your appointment
Take a shower before your appointment. Avoid using moisturiser on the area to be worked on. This will help the stencil stick to your skin. Wear something comfortable, something you don’t mind getting ink and blood on, and that enables your artist to get to the area easily.
Have something to eat before you come in, this will even out your blood sugar and will help you avoid light-headedness. It’s also a good idea to bring a sugary snack or two. If you start to feel a little low during your session, a bit of sugar will help keep you going.
Getting down to business
Your tattooing session begins with your tattooist preparing their work area, ensuring it is clean and sterile. This is done before and after each appointment.
We use standard disposable latex gloves during preparation and throughout the entirety of your tattooing session. Nitrile gloves are also kept on hand for those with latex allergies. Brand new and sterilised needles, tubes and ink caps will be laid out and prepped for use. New ink will be poured into the caps, and all items / materials used will be safely disposed of once your session is completed.
Your tattooist will most likely shave the area to be tattooed before they begin. We always use a brand new, disposable razor for each client.
The stencil will then be applied to your skin—have a good look, taking note of placement and speak up if you would like it repositioned—this is your last chance to make any changes!
Once you’re happy with the placement, sit down, relax, and let your tattoo artist work their magic.
Lastly, don’t be shy! If you need a break, or have a question, let us know, we want your experience to be as enjoyable as possible.
